Usually, tourist catalogues don't pay much attention to Montenegrin plains. Only one-day excursions are available for the tourists from the seacoast. Nevertheless, Central Region is worthy of more intent attitude. Every visitor – either history-fancier or active sport person – can find places of interest here: Ostrog monastery, built in high rocks, excavations of Doclea (the old name of the country in the Middle Ages), fortresses Medun and Spuz, architectural ensemble of civil and religious buildings in Cetinje, three big hunting clubs, beautiful lakes and ski centre.
More than 40% of the whole population of the country is concentrated in the Central region. There is the historic capital – Cetinje and two biggest cities – Podgorica (where all authorities are situated) and Niksic in this region.
Central region is connected with the littoral by railway Bar - Podgorica - Niksic and three motorways: Budva - Cetinje - Podgorica, Petrovac - Skadar Lake - Podgorica, Canj - Sozina tunnel - Skadar Lake - Podgorica. In 2006 the opening of new motorway Risan - Niksic - Zabljak is planning (now there is a local way).
